Ukrainian agricultural products competitive on EU markets - Minister Prysiazhniuk

2011-10-10 11:02:24

Ukrainian agricultural products are competitive on the European Union markets, Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said at the II International Black Sea Economic Forum 2011, held in Yalta (Ukraine's south).

"Annually, export volumes of national agricultural products to the European Union countries increase and I assure that they are rather competitive on the EU markets," the Minister emphasized.

Prysiazhniuk also informed that Ukraine carries out active work on mastering agrarian markets of the countries, whose population has been actively growing over recent ten years, in particular, Vietnam, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, India and equatorial African countries.

Speaking about the Black Sea region countries, the Minister noted that the Russian Federation is the largest trade partner of Ukraine. This year, its share made up over 15% of total turnover. Turkey is the second country by turnover of agricultural products. Its share amounted to 7.3%. The share of Georgia is 2.3%, Romania - 0.5% and Bulgaria - 0.2%.

"Therefore, the Ukrainian agrarian sector has large export opportunities. This is almost the only economic sector, which has positive balance of foreign trade. Therefore, we should work over raising Ukraine's image as a reliable player on foreign markets," Prysiazhniuk summed up.
