Ukrainian grain export 17% down over 3 months

2011-10-07 10:52:00

A negative result of introduction of grain export duties in Ukraine has already manifested itself in the fall of grain export volumes, Dragon Capital Investment Company informed.

As Tamara Levchenko said, senior analyst of the investment company, Ukraine exported about 2.8 million tons of grain over the first three months of 2011/2012 marketing year (July-September), which is 17% less in annual terms, even with taking into consideration of the fact that 2010/2011 marketing year is a low comparative base as regards export quotas, which existed in the period since October 2010 and till May 2011.

To remind, on the Parliament's website, a new draft law was published about export duties for grain, proposing to cut duties for wheat export to 3% (but no less than EUR 2/ton) from 9% (but not less than EUR 17/ton), corn - to 3% (but no more than EUR 2/ton) from 12% (no less than EUR 20/ton) and barley - to 3% (no more than EUR 2/ton) from 14% (no less than EUR 23/ton).

The draft law will come into force next day after it is signed by the President and will be in effect till July 1, 2012, whereas the existing duties for export of wheat, corn and barley are in effect till December 31, 2011.

"We consider this news very positive for national agricultural producers," Levchenko said.
