Production of main grain crops in Ukraine became loss making, Leonid Kozachenko has said, President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation (UAC) and Head of the Entrepreneurs Council at the Cabinet.

According to him, for now, profitability of wheat and barley production in the country makes up "minus" 12% on average, sunflower seeds - is nearing "zero," whereas corn - only "plus" 4%.

Kozachenko believes that considerable reduction of grain production is caused, among other things, by introduction of export duties since July 1 and abolishment of the VAT refund to exporters.

To remind, according to official statistics, in 2010, profitability (VAT excluding, budget subsidies, additional payments, before taxation) of grain crops and leguminous cultures made up 13.7% against 7.3% in 2009.

At the same time, profitability of such technical cultures as sunflower seeds and rape was much higher against grain crops, 64.5% and 25.9% respectively.

In 2009, the profitability made up 41.4% and 23.8% respectively.
