Ukraine ups sugar production

Sugar refineries in Ukraine produced 300,000 tons of sugar from the new harvest beets as of September 26, 2011, which was 35% compared to the same date in 2010, the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers has reported.
According to the association, 64 sugar plants have already started producing beet sugar, while on the same date last year their number was 53.
Sugar refineries received 3.95 million tons of sugar beets, and processed 2.65 million tons.
According to the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry, Ukraine will produce 2.1-2.2 million tons of beet sugar this season, compared to 1.54 million tons produced last season.
The capacity of the Ukrainian sugar market is estimated at 1.8-2 million tons per year.
