Ukrainian agricultural insurance market demonstrating development

The market for the insurance of agricultural risks in Ukraine is demonstrating development in 2011, with 1,978 insurance contracts signed in the spring and summer of 2011, compared to 716 insurance contracts signed in the autumn and winter of 2010-2011, Deputy Head of the IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Development Project Iryna Hryniuk has said.
She said that of the total number of insurance contracts signed in the autumn-winter period, 338 accounted for the insurance of winter wheat (the average tariff on such contracts - 7.2%, the payment - UAH 152 per hectare), 258 contracts on the insurance of winter rapeseed (6%, UAH 88 per hectare), and 112 contracts on the insurance of winter barley (5.6%, UAH 67 per hectare).
Hryniuk also said that the crop on 769.55 hectares had been insured in Ukraine. The amount of collected payments reached UAH 133.5 million, including UAH 106.3 million collected in the 2010-2011 autumn-winter period, and UAH 27.2 million in the spring and summer of 2011.
The amount of payments on insurance contracts for the 2010-2011 autumn-winter period was UAH 19.2 million USD, and the level of payments reached 70.54%.
