IMF projects improvement of GDP growth to 4.7% in 2011

The International Monetary Fund has improved its outlook of Ukrainian GDP growth in 2011 from 4.5% tо 4.7%, which corresponds to the government forecast.

According to the IMF report on perspectives of the world economy development, made public on Tuesday, in 2012, acceleration of GDP growth is expected to 4.8%, whereas in the April forecast - 4.9%.

The Fund also downgraded the inflation outlook: this year (December against December) - from 10.2% tо 10.7%, in 2012 - from 7.7% tо 8.5%. Average annual inflation this year will be 9.3% (in April - 9.2%), next year - 9.2% (8.3%).

In addition, the IMF again revised deficit on the current account of the balance of payments of Ukraine: from 3.8% of GDP to 3.9%. According to its estimates, in 2012, deficit will increase to 5.3% of GDP.

According to long-term forecasts, GDP growth in Ukraine in 2013-2016 will consistently slowdown from 4.5% tо 4% under slowdown of inflation (December against December) from 5.9% tо 5%.

Current account deficit will also be consistently reduced from 4.9% in 2013 to 4% in 2016, the IMF expects.

The document notes that, in total, the global economy is in a "dangerous new phase," global activity has slowed down in 2011 against strong growth in 2010.

"The global economic recovery is slowing with world growth projected at 4 percent in both 2011 and 2012, down from over 5 percent in 2010." Growth of real GDP of developing countries, according to forecasts, will be sluggish, approximately 1.5% in 2011 and 2% in 2012," the reporter prognosticates.

As it was reported, in 2010, the Ukrainian economy grew by 4.2% with inflation of 9.1% (average annual inflation - 9.4%).

The government forecasts enhancement of GDP growth to 4.7% with slowdown of inflation to 8.9% this year.

Deficit on the current account of the balance of payments has worsened to 2.1% last year.
