Ukraine harvests 36.48 million tons of grain by September 19

Ukraine as of September 19 harvested 36.48 million tons of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 11.86 million hectares, or 77% of the forecast.

The average yield of these crops in the country was 30.8 quintals per hectare, compared to 25.8 quintals per hectare last year.

In particular, farmers harvested 1.319 million tons of corn from an area of 262,000 hectares (7% of the target), with its average yield being 50.4 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 it was 39.3 quintals per hectare.

Ukraine also threshed 255,000 tons of buckwheat from an area of 227,000 hectares (76% of the forecast), with its average yield being 11.2 quintals per hectare, compared to last year's 8.4 quintals per hectare. Farmers harvested 270,000 tons of millet on an area of 138,000 hectares (85% of the forecast), with its average yield being 19.5 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 the figure was 15.2 quintals per hectare.

As of September 19, agribusinesses also harvested 3.44 million tons of sunflower seeds from an area of 1.91 million hectares (42% of the forecast), with their average yield being 17.9 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 the figure was 15.6 quintals per hectare.
