Ukraine harvests 36.17 million tons of grain

Ukraine as of September 16 harvested 36.17 million tons of grain from an area of 11.79 million hectares, or 76% of the forecast.
The average yield of grain in the country is 30.7 quintals per hectare, compared to 25.4 quintals per hectare on the same date last year.
In particular, farmers harvested 1.043 million tons of corn from an area of 205,000 hectares (6% of the forecast), with its average yield being 50.7 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 it was 39 quintals per hectare.
Ukraine also threshed 246,900 tons of buckwheat from an area of 219,000 hectares (73% of the forecast), with its average yield being 11.2 quintals per hectare, compared to last year's 8.4 quintals per hectare. Farmers harvested 267,000 tons of millet on an area of 137,000 hectares (84% of the forecast), with its average yield being 19.5 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 the figure was 15.3 quintals per hectare.
Agribusinesses also harvested 2.71 million tons of sunflower seeds from an area of 1.54 million hectares (34% of the forecast), with their average yield being 17.6 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 the figure was 14.9 quintals per hectare.
Farmers threshed 397,000 tons of soybeans on an area of 205,000 hectares (18% of the forecast), with the yield being 19.4 quintals per hectare (in 2010 - 14.4 quintals per hectare).
