Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on Sunday in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra laid a wreath at the grave of Peter Stolypin in connection with the 100th anniversary of his death, and visited an exhibition dedicated to his memory.
"One hundred years ago it was in Kyiv when an outstanding leader was killed, a man-reformer, a man, whose work was perceived ambiguously by contemporaries and posterity, and at the same time it should be noted that his reforms, especially the land, laid a solid foundation for the establishment of the state," Azarov emphasized.
In this context, he said, it is possible to draw parallels with the reforms that are now taking place in Ukraine. "Now our goal is to make the land get the owner, who will be thinking about the fertility of the land, so that the land provide effective return, so that it feed not only him but also the country and the state," Azarov underscored.
He stressed that the main objective of the land reform is to make the peasant a real owner of the land.
Azarov reminded that it was Stolypin who destroyed communal land ownership: "What is the collective ownership of land? The land is nobody's. Today the land plot belongs to one and tomorrow - to another. What is the sense of dealing with that plot, thinking about its fertility, efficiency of use? And now we face the same challenge: how to make the land get the owner," the prime minister finalized.
