Kliuyev: Economic performance indicate recovery from investment crisis

2011-08-22 15:22:41

First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economic Development and Trade Andriy Kliuyev believes that in the first seven month Ukraine's economic performance indicates strengthening of positive trends, Kliuyev's press office reported.

However, he said, it is just a foundation for further reforms. "Lot's of work ahead. To enter the path of an accelerated confident development of Ukraine we still have much to do: continue reforms - from the pension and health care system to the reform in the energy sector, infrastructure development and further deregulation of the economy. We will create conditions for increasing investment in basic capital, strengthen the domestic market, deal with import substitution and energy efficiency," Kliuyev emphasized.

According to him, this year the role of investment demand has increased - the total investment in fixed assets in January-June 2011 rose by 15.9% compared to fall by 7.4% in January-June 2010.

Such dynamics, the first deputy prime minister says, indicates the recovery from the investment crisis amid general stability and economic growth.

The main factors that stimulated the growth of investment activity, according to Kliuyev, were macroeconomic stability and fiscal policy aimed at reducing the tax burden and increasing financing development costs from the budget.

Moreover, important factors were also growth of companies' income by more than 20% compared to early 2010 and an increase in net inflows of foreign direct investment (according to preliminary data - to USD 3 billion after USD 2.1 billion in H1/2010).

Kliuyev also noted that the growth of export of Ukrainian goods and services is due to favorable external economic environment. But, in his opinion, it is important that Ukraine has experienced a rise in exports not only in metallurgical (34.9%) and chemical products (1.6 times), but also engineering products (36.4%) and agriculture (41.2%).
