National Bank of Ukraine expects inflation at about 7-8% in 2012

2011-08-22 11:47:11

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has predicted inflation in 2012 at about 7-8%, NBU First Deputy Chairman Yuriy Kolobov has said.

"A more accurate forecast for the year 2012 is expected no earlier than October and November, although we expect inflation to decrease significantly compared to last year and amount to 7-8%," Kolobov said.

According to forecasts by the NBU, inflation will fluctuate at around 10% by the end of 2011.

He said that in July 2011, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine had recorded the highest consumer price deflation since 2003 - 1.3%.

"This reduced the inflation rate in annual terms to 10.6% in July, from 11.9% in June 2011. According to preliminary estimates, the maximum inflation in 2011 has already been reported," he said.
