EDB ready to finance development of transport corridors, hi-tech in Ukraine

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is ready to finance in Ukraine the development of transport corridors, industrial cooperation and high technologies, electric power, food and environmental development, trade linkages, the EDB's website reported quoting EBD Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board/Managing Director Viktor Bolyasnikov

"We welcome Ukraine's desire to join the Eurasian Development Bank, and we consider such possible move logical, but the final decision on joining the new member shall be made by the Board of the Bank," he said.

Earlier, UKRINFORM reported the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade announced Ukraine's intention to join the Eurasian Development Bank in January 2011.

Later in February, EDB Chairman of the Executive Board Igor Finogenov said Ukraine could join the Bank this year.

The government of Ukraine August 17, 2011 authorized the First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev to sign a letter to EDB for confirmation of the intention of Ukraine to accede to the Agreement establishing the EDB.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is an international financial institution founded in order to foster economic growth and integration processes in the Eurasian region.

The Bank was founded by intergovernmental agreement that was signed in January 2006 by the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The initiative for establishing the Bank came from the two Presidents.

The Bank's founding members are the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Belarus are members of the Bank.
