Kyrgyzstan may reduce some import duties

The Ministry of Economic Regulation submits for public discussion a draft law aimed at reducing import duties on certain commodity items.

As noted, the average rate of customs tariff on goods imported in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2009 makes up 5.1 percent of customs value, whereof zero tariffs occupy 45.8 percent of all commodity nomenclature. “Kyrgyzstan applied these rates to goods originating from Most Favored Nation (MFN) countries,” the report reads.

The bill contains changes to 81 items introduced in accordance with the proposals of domestic enterprises. So, in order to create conditions for the development of domestic industries and ensure food security of the country zero customs duties are set on raw materials, equipment and certain food and non-food products, which production does not cover domestic needs.

In addition, seeing World Trade Organization (WTO) accession of countries such as Ukraine, Tonga, Vietnam, Cape Verde, the list of countries - members of the WTO, to which the Kyrgyz Republic will provide MFN regime, has been amended.
