Expert: Growth in retail trade may slow

The retail trade sector is continuing to recover. However, the pace of growth in retail trade may somewhat slow by the end of this year amid the increasing bases of comparison, a slowdown in the growth of the Ukrainian economy and public income in the second half of the year. At the end of this year, growth in this sector is likely to reach 11% compared to 7.8% in 2010, according to Mykola Ivchenko, the head of the Forex Club information and analytical center in Ukraine.
He said that the pace of growth in retail trade in Ukraine had accelerated to 15% in January-June 2011 compared to 14.6% in January-May 2011, which was linked to a stable growth in public income, lending to individuals and a reduction in the pace of monthly inflation in June. In absolute terms, sales in June amounted to UAH 28.213 billion (USD 3.538 billion), which was 3.34% more than in May.
