Romania exported food products worth 1 billion Euros in the first four months of this year, Agriculture ministry data has shown.

The top revenues being dominated by corn, tobacco and sunflower seeds.

In the first four months of 2010 food products worth 610.35 million Euros went into export, in the same period of 2011 the exports totaled 947.3 million Euros, representing an increase of 55 percent.

Imports also recorded an increase in the first four months of the year, by 21 percent, their value amounting to 1.409 billion Euros from 1.164 billion Euros at the end of April 2010.

Export growth has contributed to a reduction of Romania's trade deficit in agricultural products, which fell by 16.4 percent in the first four months of 2011, to 462.56 million Euros. In the same period of 2010, Romania's trade deficit with food products totalled 553.78 million Euros.
