The adoption of all laws on the land reform this year will guarantee the introduction of the land market in Ukraine in 2012, President Viktor Yanukovych said.

"The reforms in the agro-industrial sector will take place gradually and very carefully. One of the man drastic steps we need to take this year is to adopt all bills on land reform. The first one, on the land cadastre, has already been adopted. I am hoping the other laws will be adopted at the beginning of the next session," Yanukovych told a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

These steps should lead to the effective use of land resources and the possibility to use land as a resource, in particular, to get loans.

Citing experts' tentative estimations, Yanukovych said that the value of this resource is approximately UAH 420 billion.

Land bills envisage the establishment of a fair price on land lease and the sale of land to foreigners, he said.

"It is the first stage of the land reform, which we will carry out very, very carefully. It's the barometer that will enable us to quickly see the advantages and flaws of this reform virtually from the very beginning," Yanukovych said.

"This means, the adoption of these laws does not mean that they will be for life. We will be able to correct our mistakes at any time. However, we need to put in place the land market. It is the future of villages and regions," he said.
