Ukraine. Farmers harvest 3.1 million tons of grain as of July 7

Ukrainian agribusinesses harvested 3.1 million tons of early grain and leguminous crops as of July 7, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has reported.
The ministry said that grain crops had been threshed on an area of 1.1 million hectares (10%), with an average yield being 28.1 quintals per hectare (24.5 quintals per hectare in 2010).
In particular, farmers harvested 2.1 million tons of winter barley (a yield of 28 quintals per hectare), 814,000 tons of winter wheat (31.4 quintals per hectare), 147,000 tons of peas (13 quintals per hectare), and 172,000 of winter rapeseed (11.2 quintals per hectare).
The large-scale harvesting of grain crops and rapeseed is being delayed due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry expects Ukraine to harvest at least 45 million tons of grain and leguminous crops in 2011. The harvesting campaign in underway in 16 regions.
