Statistics service records inflation slowdown to 0.4% in June

According to the State Statistics Service, consumer prices rose in June compared to May 2011 by 0.4%, which is two times less than the May inflation rate (0.8%).

However, in June last year the State Statistics Service recorded deflation: then the prices fell by 0.4%.

Since the beginning of 2011, inflation has made 5.9%, as compared with June last year prices rose by 11.9%.

In June, prices for food and no-alcohol beverages rose by 0.3%. Fruit prices rose most of all (2.1%). A 1.3-0.9% increase was reported in the prices for soft drinks, fish and fish products, pasta, butter, bread, meat and meat products. At the same time, eggs and animal fats got by 5.1% and 3.8% cheaper. A 2.5-0.1% decrease was registered in the prices for milk, cheese, butter, vegetables, cultured milk foods and rice.

Prices (tariffs) for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 0.4%, including payment for housing increased by 2.7%, sewerage 0.9%, water supply 0.7%. At the same time, there was a seasonal decline in payments for hot water and heating by 0.4%.

0.8% higher prices in the health sector are mainly due to the seasonal rise in the prices of spa services by 2.7%, and pharmaceutical products by 0.7%.

Transportation prices in general rose by 1.5%, which is primarily due to the rising cost of passenger carriage by road transport (2.8%), fuels and lubricants (1.0%).

In 2010, inflation in Ukraine was 9.1%.
