Belarus-Ukraine trade up 1.5 times in January-May

In January-May 2011 Belarus-Ukraine trade went up 1.5 times as against the same period last year to $2.152 billion, BelTA learned from the Trade and Economy Group of the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine.
The export of Belarusian products to Ukraine went up 58.8% to reach $1.319 billion. The import increased some 31.2% to $833 million. Belarus had a $486 million surplus in trade with Ukraine in January-May 2011.
Ukraine is one of the strategic trade partners of Belarus. It takes the third place in the volume of trade and export among other trade partners of Belarus.
Belarus’ main exports are Belarusian agricultural machines, tractors, trucks, potash fertilizers, oil products, tires, and refrigerators. Ukraine’s main exports to Belarus are metal products, ferrous metal goods, electricity, mill cake, sunflower oil, etc.
In 2010 the bilateral trade made up almost $4.5 billion, up 48.9% on the same period of last year. Belarus’ export went up 51.5% to the total of $2.6 billion. The import increased by 45.5% to reach $1.9 billion. The trade surplus made up $700 million.
