Belarus-Moldova trade might double to $500 million

2011-07-01 17:10:19

Dynamic development of Belarus-Moldova trade might make the sales between the two countries double to $500 million, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Moldova Vyacheslav Osipenko said as he attended a reception organized by the Belarusian Embassy in Chisinau to mark the forthcoming Independence Day in Belarus.

The Ambassador believes that the goal is achievable taking into account the Belarusian-Moldavian vibrant trade and economic relations, high level of mutual understanding between the countries and readiness of the both sides to continue bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

The Belarusian diplomat stressed that the two economies are mutually complementary. Belarusian tractors, household appliances, construction materials, dairy products, other food and industrial goods are in high demand on the Moldavian market. The Chisinau City Hall has so far purchased several Belkommunmash trolleybuses. The two countries have agreed on a joint company to assemble these vehicles in the Moldavian capital.

Vyacheslav Osipenko emphasized that Belarus, for its part, ranks first in the import of Moldavian wines. Belarus accounts for nearly one fourth of Moldova’s total wine export today. Belarus also purchases Moldavian vegetables and tinned fruit and vegetable products, being Moldova’s second partner behind Russia.

The Belarusian diplomat also stressed a consistent development of regional cooperation, mutual visits of businessmen, expansion of links that contribute to the bilateral trade and economic relations. The Ambassador expressed hope that the relations between Belarus and Moldova would continue developing for the benefit of the two nations.

Attending the reception to mark Independence Day of Belarus were Chairman of the Moldavian part of the Belarus-Moldova intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation, Vice Premier, Economy Minister of Moldova Valeriu Lazar, head of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration Igor Corman, MPs, members of the Chisinau City Hall, businessmen, civil organizations, Belarusian diasporas and the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau.
