Ukraine, Armenia to reach pre-crisis trade figure of USD 300 m in 2011

2011-07-01 16:38:35

Ukraine and Armenia will reach a pre-crisis trade figure of USD 300 million in 2011, Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of State Corporate Rights and Property Dmytro Kolesnikov said at the fifth meeting of the Ukrainian-Armenian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Kyiv, the press service of the Ukrainian government reported.

"In the pre-crisis year of 2008, the overall trade in goods and services between the two countries reached a record high of USD 300 million. Then it fell by almost a third in the next two years, but in 2011 we are planning to reach pre-crisis figures," he said.

While speaking about the future areas of bilateral cooperation, Kolesnikov noted that Ukraine had great experience for participation in infrastructure projects in Armenia. In particular, Ukrainian companies can provide turnkey services on designing, drafting documentation, the supply of products, the installation of equipment for hydroelectric power plants, oil pipelines, gas pipelines, power lines, the construction of nuclear power plants, etc.

"We agreed that the Armenian Embassy in Ukraine would inform Ukrainian industrialists about tenders that will be held in the country. Thus, our companies will be able to participate in energy projects, a subway reconstruction project, and projects on the construction of new roads," Kolesnikov said.

Armenian Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan, in turn, noted that the two countries had common interests and great potential so as not only to reach pre-crisis figures in bilateral trade, but also to exceed them.

The next meeting of the intergovernmental commission will take place in Yerevan in 2012.
