Experts: Gross grain harvest in Ukraine this season expected at 42.3-43 m tons

2011-06-29 12:39:29

The gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine in the current season will be 42.3-43 million tons, compared to 39.3 million tons in 2010, according to experts from Nibulon, one of the largest producers and exporters of grain crops and oilseeds in the country.

The company said in a press release that in particular, the harvest of wheat is expected at 17.5 million tons with a yield of 27 quintals per hectare, barley - at 7.2 million tons (23-23.5 quintals per hectare) and maize - at 15.5-16 million tons (45-46 quintals per hectare).

In general, the company lowered its forecast for the yield of spring crops due to the influence of current weather conditions, which have recently been characterized by drought in many regions of the country.

However, according to Nibulon forecasts, the qualitative figures of grain this year will be higher than last season.

The company also expects the gross harvest of rapeseed to be about 1.3 million tons, soybeans - 1.8-2 million tons, and sunflower seeds - about seven million tons.

As reported, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry forecasts the grain harvest this year at 45 million tons against 39.3 million tons in 2010.
