GDP growth expected at 4-5% in Belarus in 2011

The Finance Ministry expected GDP to increase by 4 to 5% in 2011, Finance Minister Andrei Kharkovets told reporters.

“The budget is projected to total Br233 trillion, which is consistent with the 4-5% growth,” the Finance minister said.

Andrei Kharkovets also reported that the loan growth in the economy in 2011 should not exceed 4% of GDP. “Here we need to keep in mind preferential loans for housing construction and a number of other government programs,” he said.

According to the minister, the categories of people that can qualify for preferential lending programs will be adjusted. However, this does not mean that the volume of housing construction will be reduced significantly. “The volumes remain high, as there is potential for increasing the funding from market sources, which we can turn to,” Andrei Kharkovets said.
