Foreign exchange reserves of Ukraine have reached 37.8 million USD

Gross foreign exchange reserves of Ukraine as of 22 of June, 2011 reached 37.8Bn USD mark during the stable situation on the currency market. Such statement was made by the head of the advisory group of the National Bank of Ukraine, Valeriy Lytvyckiy. As of today, foreign exchange reserves are equael to the total of 37.8Bn USD compared to 29.4Bn USD during the same period in the previous year. Net reserves are 21.4Bn USD compared to 19.7Bn USD during the same period in 2010.

According to Mr. Lytvyckiy, National Bank has bought 484.5M USD more than sold. “We think that the situation on the financial market is under control. Fundamental factors of influence on the situation on the financial market remain favorable”, - as mentioned by Valeriy Lytvyckiy.

In the middle of May, 2011 international reserves have reached historically maximum level, being over the level of 39Bn USD, however during the second part of the month National Bank has started actively selling currency on the inter-bank market, countering weakening of hryvna. As the result international reserves for May have decreased by 1.3% or by 484.2M USD until the level of 37.867Bn USD. In general, during the period of January-May reserves of the National bank have increased by 9.5% or 3.291Bn USD.
