Grain exports may accelerate in early new season - experts

2011-06-17 13:02:02

Fear of possible new tariff restrictions on grain exports from Ukraine will encourage exporters to active grain shipments in the first months of the new 2011/12 season.

This forecast is contained in the UkrAgroConsult research. "Exports could reach two million tons in July and August," experts suggest.

Last October, the Ukrainian government imposed quotas on grain exports, trying to prevent an increase in domestic prices due to large-scale exports. The restrictions were finally lifted only in June to release the bins for the new harvest, which is projected to significantly exceed the previous one.

However, earlier the Parliament passed a law on the introduction from July of export duties on grain in the amount from 9% to 14% of customs value, depending on the type of grain.
