Ukraine. President continues advocating moratorium on land sales to foreigners

President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine, who is on a working visit to Vinnytsia region Wednesday, said that he remains a supporter of the moratorium on land sales to foreigners.
According to him, the land reform project will come to the Verkhovna Rada in September this year. Land reform will enable more than 6.5 million unit-holders receive a fair price for land in the event of its sale or lease. But the sale of land will proceed "only within the country, as the sale of land outside the country for some time will be under the moratorium."
The President stressed that "the reform will work not or land sales, but for lease, which would serve as a ground for granting loans.
According to estimates of Viktor Yanukovych, introduction of the land market will use the resources of about 450 billion UAH and reduce corruption in this sphere (1 USD - 7.97 UAH).
