U.K. May Annual Inflation Steady At 4.5%

U.K. consumer price annual inflation came in at 4.5 percent in May, unchanged from April, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Tuesday. The rate also matched the consensus forecast. The inflation rate continues to stay well above the central bank's 2 percent target.
On a monthly comparison, consumer prices advanced 0.2 percent, in line with expectations, but slower than the 1 percent increase seen in April.
As expected, retail price annual inflation was 5.2 percent, also unchanged from April. The Retail Price Index (RPI) gained 0.3 percent on a monthly basis.
RPIX annual inflation - the all items RPI excluding mortgage interest payments - was 5.3 percent in May, also unchanged from April.
