Swiss Inflation Rises Slightly In May

Switzerland's consumer price inflation increased slightly in May, the Federal Statistical Office said Tuesday.
Annual inflation rose to 0.4 percent in May from 0.3 percent in April. Economists had expected it to remain unchanged at 0.3 percent.
On a monthly comparison, consumer prices remained flat, following a 0.1 percent rise in the previous month. The consensus forecast called for a decline of 0.1 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 0.8 percent month-on-month and clothing and footwear prices gained 0.6 percent. The increase in transportation cost was 0.4 percent. These increases were offset by a 0.4 percent fall in energy prices and 0.2 percent drop in household maintenance cost. Other sub-groups like recreation and culture and hotels and restaurants decreased from the previous month's level.
