Russia and the United States have agreed to boost economic collaboration and fast-track Moscow’s accession to the WTO, President Dmitry Medvedev told reporters after his talks with US counterpart Barack Obama in Deauville on Thursday.
For his part, Obama said that Russia joining the WTO will be of paramount importance to the world economy.
He also praised Russia’s contribution to the US’s war-effort in Afghanistan, separately touting the New START Treaty and Russian-US non-proliferation cooperation.
The two men sat down for talks ahead of the G-8 summit in Deauville, a two-day gathering that will specifically focus on ways of improving global nuclear safety and shoring up Japan , hit by the devastating quake-tsunami disaster on March 11.
