Ukraine, Canada expanding economic cooperation

A free trade agreement between Canada and Ukraine should become a means of realizing the potential of both countries in trade and economic areas, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Vasyl Marmazov said during the 3rd round of talks in Kyiv between Ukraine and Canada to establish a free trade area.
According to him, the agreement will help expand the presence of products of Ukrainian metallurgical and chemical industries, promote the supply of high-tech mechanical engineering, and expand the presence of light industry products in the Canadian market.
From Canada Ukraine may attract investment in oil and gas, agriculture, in particular the use of Canadian technologies in animal husbandry and horticulture, as well as the development of renewable energy technologies, the organization of maritime transport.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine , the volume of merchandise trade with Canada in 2010 increased by 18% or USD 35.7 million.
