World Bank: Ukrainian economy could grow by 7% per year

2010-11-12 17:04:01

World Bank Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Martin Raiser has said that the Ukrainian economy could grow by 7% per year.

"I think that it's potentially possible," he said at a Ukrainian investment forum in Kyiv.

Raiser also said that changes in the situation on the foreign exchange market would have no immediate impact on the Ukrainian economy.

Ukraine's state budget for 2010 foresees GDP growth at 3.7%.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) forecast that the country's gross domestic product would grow by 4% in 2010 and by 3.7% in 2011.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development earlier improved its forecast for the growth of Ukraine's gross domestic product from 4% to 5% in 2010, and from 4.1% to 4.5% in 2011.

The IMF also improved its forecast for GDP growth in Ukraine in 2011 from 4.1% to 4.5%.

Fitch Ratings expects Ukraine's GDP to grow by 5% in 2010 and by 4.5% in 2011.
