The United States could lose its status of the world’s biggest economic power within the next decade.  

Speaking at an economic forum in Washington the International Monetary Fund deputy head John Lipsky predicted that China could overtake the US in 2021, which will effectively end the 'Age of America' a decade before most analysts had expected.

The Washington-based fund claims its estimate is based on the comparative purchasing power of the two countries.

The IMF believes America needs to move fast and bring its finances to order, cut the budget deficit and slow down the rate of federal debt growth.
