Expert: Cancellation of maize export quotas profitable for agricultural companies

The cancellation of maize export quotas should have a positive impact on Ukrainian agricultural companies, especially those that failed to obtain export quotas because of the non-transparent system of their distribution.
In connection with the cancellation of maize export quotas, total exports in the 2010/2011 marketing year (ending in June) should exceed 10.7 million tons, because about 1-1.5 million tons of maize can additionally be exported, senior analyst with Dragon Capital Tamara Levchenko said.
She said that the cancellation of quotas on other crops would significantly increase the volume of exports, opening a short window of opportunities for agricultural enterprises in anticipation of the expected introduction of export duties (rather than quotas), which could happen as early as July.
