European Union regulators Wednesday approved the merger of two Brazilian orange juice companies, saying the proposed deal will not impede competition in Europe.
Although the merger of Votorantim and Fischer will create the world's largest wholesale supplier of orange juice, the European Commission said that there would remain sufficient competition on the market.
The merged company will face competitive pressure from other established suppliers, the commission concluded after an in-depth investigation.
Votorantim and Fischer sought regulatory clearance from the commission in November because their sales in Europe exceeded the threshold that triggers EU jurisdiction over mergers and acquisitions.
