Investment in projects related to the development of alternative energy, influenced by the world's natural and manmade disasters, can have a worldwide trend towards a significant increase in 2011-2012, Bank of Cyprus Chairman of the Board Vladyslav Bayrak has said.

"An accident at a nuclear power plant in Japan will make political leaders of different countries and businessmen to think one more time about the prospects of the speedy development of alternative energy," says the financier. Therefore, he adds, we can expect in the coming two years the pace of investing in alternative energy projects to be significantly accelerated.

In Ukraine such projects, according to Mr. Bayrak, will be implemented with a certain time lag compared to the developed and rapidly developing countries. However, the relevance of alternative energy for Ukraine is very high, especially in light of the fact that we have to fund overcoming the consequences of the Chornobyl accident also with the help of external donors.
