Standardization bodies of the CIS member states will discuss conditions for reducing technical barriers in trade. The matters will be discussed at sessions of scientific and technical commissions for conformance assessment and accreditation of the CIS Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification in Minsk on 19-20 October.

According to the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, representatives of national standardization, metrology and certification bodies of the CIS states and the Standards Bureau of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification will take part in the sessions. There are plans to discuss over 25 issues for the sake of increasing quality and competitive ability of products, removing technical barriers, and enhancing trade and economic cooperation between the CIS member states.

The CIS-wide enforcement of recommendations for interstate standardization “Conformance confirmation modules and certification schemes” will be an important point to discuss.

Experts will consider the updated draft agreement on mutual recognition of accreditation of conformance assessment bodies. There are plans for cooperation in the CIS and cooperation with international and regional accreditation bodies.

Attention will be paid to harmonizing existing CIS regulations on conformance evaluation and accreditation with those of the Customs Union.

After the sessions of the commissions items will be suggested for discussion at the forthcoming meeting of heads of national standardization, metrology and certification bodies of CIS states that will take place in Azerbaijan in November.
