Confectionery industry breaks pre-crisis record by exports

Ukrainian confectionery manufacturers last year managed to increase exports to a level higher than before the crisis, indicating revival of the sector.
In particular, baked confectionery was exported by 15.8% more than in 2009 (136,000 tons). The main exports market is traditionally the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Russia accounts for the largest supply volume (34.4%).
According to experts, it is due to increase in the exports of confectionery, Ukrainian producers can anticipate market growth in physical and monetary terms and speak about positive dynamics.
Confectionery market in Ukraine is highly concentrated. More than 65% of the market is divided among the five companies: Roshen, Konti, AVK, Biscuit-Chocolate and Zhytomyrski Lasoschi. Small companies prefer not to compete with large enterprises and try to occupy free niches in the regions.
Dominant positions in the market of bakery confectionary were taken by closed joint stock company Production Association Konti, its market share staying at 24.3% last year.
