Ukraine enjoys 5% rise in GDP

Ukraine's GDP inched up 5 percent in the first nine months of 2010 compared to a 15-percent decline in the corresponding period of 2009, Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov reported today at the 7th meeting of the Vienna Economic Forum, the cabinet's press office announced. According to Azarov, "Over 250 investment projects were launched, while both domestic trade and the population's purchasing power increased." Furthermore, as RBC Ukraine reported today, the PM indicated that two stadiums had been completed for the 2012 Soccer European Championship, and two others would be finished next year. Azarov also said that about 1,000 kilometers of good roads would be ready for use in 2010. According to Ukraine's State Statistics Committee, the country's GDP climbed 5.9 percent in the second quarter of 2010 compared to Q2 2009.
