IMF is worried over the "black swans" of global economy

2011-04-05 17:07:08

Global economic recovery is very uneven and “suffers from great uncertainty", said the head of the International Monetary Fund Dominique Strauss-Kahn, writes The Wall Street Journal.

Economic growth in developed countries is very slow, and unemployment rate remains very high, the head of the IMF said at a meeting with students at George Washington University.

According to Strauss-Kahn, Europe uses the fragmentary approach to repay its public debt, and high commodity prices facing declining revenues and investment could undermine the economic situation in the Middle East.

"Much uncertainty still prevails. Indeed, a large number of “black swans” swims in the global economy lake, "- said Strauss-Kahn.

This was said shortly before the joint meeting of the representatives of the fund, the World Bank and finance ministers of G20, which will be held next week in Washington. One of the main topics of the meeting will be the problem of the growing global economy imbalance.

The previous meeting of the Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors was held on February 18. It was called together at the initiative of France, which currently presides over the G20. Paris seeks better management of commodity prices, and promotes the reform of the international monetary system.
