Agriculture ministry: Grain export quotas fully justified

2011-03-31 16:55:17

Setting quotas for grain export from Ukraine has helped stabilize domestic grain prices, and therefore is fully justified, Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk said in Odesa region on Thursday.

"The procedure of setting quotas is justified. We have managed to stabilize and keep the domestic prices of bread, flour and fodder. Yesterday the Cabinet of Ministers extended quotas until July 1, and increased export volumes of corn by 2 million tons. A bill to hold open bidding for the allocation of quotas will be considered on Tuesday," the minister noted.

The Cabinet extended quotas on grain exports until July 1 this year. The volume of quotas increased by 2 million tons of corn.

December 8, 2010, the Cabinet extended quotas for the export of grain until the end of March 2011. The government's decision increased quota for the export of wheat by 500 thousand tons and corn by 1 million tons.

The Cabinet, for the period until December 31, 2010, imposed quotas on exports of wheat and a mixture of wheat and rye (meslin) in the volume of 500 thousand tons, corn 2 million tons, barley 200 thousand tons, rye and buckwheat 1 thousand tons each.
