Astarta to increase summer crop acreage 26% in 2011, to 160,000 ha

Major Ukrainian producer of agricultural products, holding company Astarta, is planning to increase spring crop areas by 26%, from 33,000 hectares to 160,000 hectares. This is stated by the press-service of the company.
According to the holding, of the 160,000 hectares, about 45,000 hectares will be planted with sugar beet.
The company has been working on the Ukrainian market since 1993; now in addition to six sugar mills the holding also has more than 40 agricultural companies.
Astarta is the largest sugar producer in Ukraine, accounting for about 13% of sugar output for 2010, and the largest manufacturer of industrial milk; it also cultivates more than 210,000 hectares of land. The holding aims to double the production of milk over the next five years.
