Ukraine. NBU council member predicts acceleration of inflation in March to 10%

Inflation in Ukraine in March will amount to more than 10%, Valeriy Heyets, a member of the National Bank Council, told a press conference.
"I think that March inflation figures will be higher than they were in January - February. We have a background that inflation will go beyond 10%... The gap between the prices of currencies and prices in the market will continue to grow, and there will be a loss of price competitiveness. The loss of price competitiveness in all respects will form the prerequisites for import," he said.
Earlier, the Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, V.Heyets claimed that the 2011 inflation could reach 14%.
According to official statistics, in February, inflation was 2.7%, having decreased compared with January by 0.2%.
The 2011 budget provides for inflation of 8.9%.
