50 banks will be closed in Ukraine - expert

2011-03-24 09:51:36

In the near future, the number of banks operating in Ukraine is likely to be reduced by fifty. This was stated by the Ukrainian Banking Portal project manager, Oleksiy Luponosov.

According to him, all banks can stay on the market: there are no bad banks, and if the bank operates, it can do that. Another thing the strategy chosen by the owner: to collect as much money as possible and close, or to hold long-term work in Ukraine. Judging by capital and from the position of Ukrainian Banks Association, which defends the interests of small banks, we see the desire to collect much money, the expert says. The banks that have not filled up their share capitals are under threat now, Luponosov says.

As the expert said, there is confidence that in the next 6 months, 50 banks will cease to exist. It is yet difficult to say whether they will close with a scandal, as it was with problem banks, or in a civilized way.

It is worth noting that the requirement to increase authorized capital to 120 million UAH (1 USD - 7.95 UAH) will lead to discrimination against small and medium-sized banks, the press office of the Ukrainian Credit-Bank Union association reported.

Currently in Ukraine there are 176 banks licensed by the National Bank, and 18 banks in a state of elimination.
