Romania GDP growth slows sharply in Q2

Romania's economy grew at a markedly slower annual rate in the second quarter compared to the previous three months, data from the National Institute of Statistics showed Thursday.
Gross domestic product rose by an unadjusted 1.2 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2014. Economists had forecast 3.3 percent growth.
In the first quarter, GDP had risen an unadjusted 3.9 percent and grew 5.4 percent in the final three months of 2013.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, GDP rose 1.4 percent in the June quarter. In the previous quarter, GDP increased 4 percent.
Compared to the previous quarter, GDP fell by a seasonally adjusted 1 percent in real terms in the second quarter.
In the January to June period, GDP increased an unadjusted 2.4 percent. GDP rose by a seasonally adjusted 2.6 percent in the first half of 2014.
The statistical office is set to release detailed GDP data for the second quarter on September 3.
