Belarus explains terms of abolishing import licensing from FTA states

2014-07-29 10:23:03

The Belarusian government has explained the conditions for cancelling the temporary licensing of goods imported from the states that signed the free-trade agreement, BelTA has learnt.

The licensable products included cement, glass, beer, some types of pasta and confectionery imported from the countries outside the single customs space of the Customs Union. The Foreign Ministry had informed that Belarus canceled these licenses for the countries that make part of the free-trade area.

“These restrictions do not apply to the import of goods manufactured and imported in Belarus from the countries that signed the free-trade agreement of 18 October 2011,” the government confirmed. The restrictions were lifted by Council of Ministers' Resolution No. 719 dated 24 July 2014. “At the same time, after the Council of Ministers' Resolution comes in effect, these groups of products will become licensable again if these countries restrict the import of Belarusian products using the instruments that are not envisaged in the free-trade agreement,” the government noted.

On 1 June Belarus introduced licensing of imports of some types of confectionery products and pasta, as well as cement and glass from outside the Customs Union. This is a temporary measure that will be in force until 30 November 2014. Imported beer will also be subject to licensing from 1 May to 31 October this year.
