EU disbursed EUR 500 Ml of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine

The European Commission, on behalf of the EU, disbursed EUR 500 Ml to Ukraine on June 17, 2014, the first loan tranche from the new EU Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA II) program for the country (MFA II totals EUR 1 Bl), the press service of the EU Representative Office in Ukraine reports. This follows a disbursement of EUR 100 Ml on 20 May from the previously agreed MFA program (MFA I totaling EUR 600 Ml). The funding for the EUR 500 Ml tranche was raised on the financial markets on 10 June by the European Commission. Olli Rehn, European Commission Vice President for Economic and Monetary Affairs, stressed: "The European Union is providing essential support for Ukraine's efforts to address its major economic challenges. Today's disbursement is a further concrete sign of European solidarity towards the people of Ukraine."
