Much smaller increase in Spanish exports at first quarter of this year compared to the same period in previous years.

During the first quarter of 2014, Spanish exports of fruits and vegetables have increased slightly compared to the first quarter 2013: +1.4% in value (3.17 million euros) and +0.5% by volume (3.4 million tons) according to data from the Ministry of Economy published by FEPEX.

This slowdown in growth in the first quarter of 2014 is attributable to the decrease of fruits, the exports of which fell by -4.8% in value (€ 1.4 million) and -10.7% by volume (1 6 million tons), mainly with oranges, mandarins and strawberries.

Exports to the EU (3.22 million tons, or 92.4% of total) were virtually unchanged compared to the first quarter of 2013 (+0.4%). Instead, the shipments to European countries outside the EU fell by -6%, with declines to Russia (-14%) and Ukraine (-8%).
