Spain GDP expands for third straight quarter

Spain's economy expanded for the third consecutive time in the first quarter, preliminary data from the statistical office INE showed Wednesday.
Gross domestic product grew 0.4 percent sequentially in the first quarter, in line with forecast. The rate doubled from the 0.2 percent rise seen in the fourth quarter of 2013.
On a yearly basis, the economy advanced 0.6 percent in the first quarter, reversing the 0.2 percent contraction in the fourth quarter. The rate also exceeded the 0.5 percent increase forecast by economists.
