No threat of default in Ukraine - minister

2013-12-13 11:23:33

Any talks about the threat of default in Ukraine are groundless.

Economic Development and Trade Minister Ihor Prasolov has said about this, answering the journalist's questions in an interview to 1+1 TV channel, the press service of the Ministry informs about this.

"The word "default" should not be used. No default will be in Ukraine, since actually the economic recession stopped, and this is the main thing. Wages to medical workers, teachers have been paid. We clearly fulfill our obligations on foreign debts, in November, we have repaid over USD 1.5 billion of the IMF credit and Eurobonds. Next year, reduction of the debt burden is expected, the economy will enter the way of economic growth. So, let us forget the word "default" and engage in real work," Prasolov said.

The Minister also forecasts a low inflation rate in the country: "The Ministry expects inflation at the level of 0.4-05% at the end of the year. This is almost nothing." In addition, Ihor Prasolov called not to speculate on the theme of raising the currency rate. "1-2% is an insignificant fluctuation, which is determined exclusively by the market," the Minister said.

At the same time, he noted that the difficult situation on foreign markets has a negative impact on GDP growth, but the authorities control this process.

"We need investments, it is necessary to modernize the economy. Considerable attention is paid to expansion of exports of our goods. Over recent month, I visited India, Brazil and with the President of Ukraine - China," Ihor Prasolov said.
