VAT for imports will continue filling state budget following EU association - Poroshenko

2013-11-19 17:41:58

Reduction of revenues to the state budget following reduction of import duty for imported goods in case of Ukraine's signing the Association Agreement with the European Union will be insignificant.

Verkhovna Rada deputy (individual) Petro Poroshenko has said about this on air of the ICTV channel Monday, answering the questions about reduction of revenues to the state budget from the customs services after signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, Ukrinform reports.

“The customs service forms more than 20% of the state budget. And the risks seem to be great. But the lion's share of those revenues is from the VAT for imports, which will remain (following signing of the agreement - Ed.). And the duty is its only insignificant part. 4.6% is the average weighted duty rate, which is paid by a foreigner, who imports the commodity to Ukraine. And it will be 2.9%. The loss makes up only slightly more than one percent,” he said.

At the same time, Poroshenko stressed, symmetrically import duties will reduce from the goods, which Ukraine exports to the European Union countries and this will promote raising their competitiveness on the EU markets.

“We have competitive goods. The Ukrainian producer should not be humiliated. Because Ukrainian sectors, both agricultural, and processing, and IT, and technological and machine building, where investments were made and where creation of competitive production was reached - are competitive both on the Russia market and on the European Union market,” he stressed.
